A Historic Alliance of Science and Spirituality: "ALLATRA" Movement Signs Agreement with the Jesuit Order in Bolivia
Bolivia has recently witnessed a landmark event in international cooperation, hailed by many as an unprecedented step forward. The global public movement ALLATRA and the Jesuit Order—one of the world’s most respected spiritual and educational communities—have signed a strategic partnership agreement.
The signing was timed to coincide with the United Nations’ International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Notably, this partnership aims to unite efforts for the protection of life, wisdom, and a sustainable future for our planet.
Bridging Spiritual Heritage and Scientific Responsibility
For over four centuries, the Jesuit Order has served humanity by advancing education, social justice, and personal growth. Their presence in Bolivia is deeply rooted in history, actively supporting scientific and humanitarian initiatives that benefit society.
ALLATRA, in turn, brings together scientists, researchers, and volunteers from more than 180 countries. The movement’s primary objectives include fostering international dialogue and collaborative solutions to modern global challenges.
Joint Projects and Scientific Collaboration
The first phase of this partnership will focus on cooperation with the San Calixto Observatory, Bolivia’s leading center for seismological and meteorological research. Scientists from both organizations have begun exchanging expertise and data to create programs aimed at raising awareness of natural hazards and strengthening early warning systems.
“It has never been more important to act together—motivated by love for life rather than fear of disaster. We are pooling knowledge, resources, and human potential to shape a shared future,” said José Ríos, ALLATRA’s representative, who signed the agreement.
On behalf of the Jesuit Order, Reverend Bernardo Mercado, Provincial of the Society of Jesus in Bolivia, highlighted that this partnership aligns with the Order’s Global Apostolic Priorities and the ethos of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’, which states:
“We all live in a common home, and our duty is to care for it together.”
A New Model for Partnership
This alliance represents a new paradigm—where scientific and spiritual institutions collaborate based on shared values: humanism, mutual support, and responsibility to future generations. The initiative already enjoys international support, including from diaspora leaders in the United States.
According to participants, this project is not merely symbolic—it will become a practical platform for uniting knowledge, technology, and human effort to address global challenges.
